SURKHET: The process to form a new government in Karnali Province has begun following Chief Minister Yam Lal Kandel’s resignation on Saturday.
Province Head Yagya Raj Joshi accepted Kandel’s resignation—which followed a July 16 no-confidence motion filed by 16 lawmakers from the Nepali Congress and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP)—and requested Assembly members to submit majority claims under Article 168 (2) of the Constitution by 5:00 PM on Monday, July 28.
Kandel first took office on April 9, 2024, heading a CPN (UML)–CPN (Maoist Centre) coalition, before securing a second vote of confidence on August 5, 2024, under a power-sharing tenure-split with the Nepali Congress.
