KATHMANDU: The All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), the student wing of CPN-UML, is holding its leadership elections today using electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the first time.

According to convention presidium member Madhav Dhungel, voting will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The final list of candidates was released Wednesday, and all names have been entered into 43 EVMs provided by Ram-Laxman Innovations.

In the 24th national convention, Prakash Poudel and Dr. Sujan Kadariya are contesting for the post of chairman. The open vice-chair position has five contenders: Bikash Shrestha, Rajkumar Dhakal, Bharat Singh Dhami, Dharmendra KC, and Ganesh Bahadur Shahi.

For woman vice-chair, four candidates are in the race: Sujita Dhital, Anjana Siwakoti, Bhawani Bajgain, and Aarti Bhattarai. RK Romash, Deepak Dhami, and Sunil Kandel are vying for general secretary.

Outgoing chairman Samik Badal said the use of EVMs aims to reduce delays and eliminate the hassle of paper ballots.

A total of 1,543 delegates are expected to vote, with each taking around 15–20 minutes due to the presence of 519 candidates contesting various posts.
