KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is finally set to present its annual budget for fiscal year 2025/26 today (Sunday), breaking months of internal paralysis.

The decision follows a breakthrough executive meeting on Friday, attended by Mayor Balen Shah, Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Saroj Guragain, and ward representatives.

The finalized budget will be presented by Deputy Mayor Dangol at the Municipal Assembly later today.

According to the ceiling committee, the budget allocates 51% to infrastructure, 20% to social development, 14% to administrative operations, 12% to governance, and 3% to economic programs.

Mayor Shah’s earlier attempt to bypass CAO Guragain and present the budget independently failed due to lack of backing from elected members.

The budget, originally due on June 24 as per legal provisions, was delayed by the standoff, which had stalled city governance since December 2024.
