KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall across Nepal has triggered widespread flooding and landslides, resulting in the complete blockage of eight national highways and partial disruption of several others.
According to the Nepal Police Headquarters, the incessant downpour since last night has severely impacted major transportation routes across the country.
Among the highways fully obstructed are the Koshi Highway in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality of Sankhuwasabha, the bridge connecting the Nepal-China border in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality of Rasuwa, the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa, the Araniko Highway in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchok, and the Mid-Hill Highway in Shivapuri Rural Municipality of Nuwakot.
In western Nepal, the Jajarkot–Dolpa Bheri Corridor in Aathbiskot Municipality of Rukum West, the Karnali Corridor in Simkot Rural Municipality of Humla, and another section of the Mid-Hill Highway in Chhedagad Municipality of Jajarkot have also been completely blocked.
In addition, several roads are currently operating only in a single lane due to partial damage or obstruction.
These include the Tokha–Nuwakot road section in Kathmandu, the Kaligandaki Corridor in both Baglung Municipality (Baglung) and Gaindakot Municipality (Nawalpur), the Beni–Jomsom Road in Thasang Rural Municipality (Mustang), and the Sahid Highway in Paribartan Rural Municipality (Rolpa).
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and coordinate clearance efforts where possible.
