SUNSARI: Two people were killed after a scooter and a bus collided at the Panipiya forest section of the Itahari–Dharan road in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-20 on Saturday.

According to police, a bus (Province 1-02-002 Kha 0455) heading towards Dharan from Itahari collided head-on with a scooter (Ko 22 Pa 2125) coming from the opposite direction.

The scooter rider, Sujan BK of Birtamod Municipality-5, Jhapa, and pillion passenger Suraj BK sustained serious injuries in the crash.

Both were rushed to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, but died during treatment at around 12:30 pm, District Police Office spokesperson Yogaraj Khatri said.

Police have taken the bus driver, Prem Magar of Belka Municipality-3, Udayapur, into custody for further investigation.
