LALITPUR: A total of 651 prisoners, out of 1,280 who left Nakkhu Prison during the recent Gen Z demonstrations on September 8–9, have yet to return.
They escaped following incidents of vandalism, attacks, and arson during the protests. As of now, 587 prisoners have voluntarily returned, while some others have been relocated to other prisons across the country.
The Department of Prison Management has given them until October 6 to get back. If they fail to do so by the deadline, legal action will be taken.
The Department has also requested support from families, local authorities, security agencies, media, and other concerned bodies to help find out the missing prisoners and bring them back.
Additionally, prisoners still on the run have been asked to surrender at the nearest police office, prison, or relevant authority.
