KATHMANDU: The Nepali community in Israel made a powerful presence at a massive thanksgiving rally in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square on Saturday evening, waving Nepal’s national flag and holding photos of Bipin Joshi, the Nepali citizen held hostage by Hamas.
Carrying placards reading “Bring Bipin Home,” they prayed collectively for his safe return.
Many said Joshi symbolizes the hope and resilience of the entire Nepali community.
The event, attended by over 100,000 people, featured U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, who said, “When courage and faith meet, miracles happen.”
He called the release of hostages a triumph of courage and shared humanity. Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and Admiral Brad Cooper also addressed the gathering.
Despite some booing at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s name, speakers credited him for helping secure the deal that led to the ongoing hostage release.
According to reports, Hamas is preparing to release all remaining hostages, both living and deceased, by Monday morning, with the process expected to start Sunday night.
As the red-and-blue Nepali flags fluttered under the Tel Aviv sky, the crowd’s emotion was clear — a deep hope that Bipin Joshi will finally return home.
