KATHMANDU: The high-level probe commission formed to investigate the September 8–9 Gen Z protests has sought clarification from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandrakuber Khapung.
According to the commission, IGP Khapung failed to provide the details requested regarding police actions during the protest.
On Wednesday, the commission issued a formal inquiry asking him to explain the non-cooperation.
Commission member and former Additional Inspector General of Police Bigyan Raj Sharma confirmed to Nepal News that the clarification was demanded from the IGP.
“Since he did not furnish the information sought by the commission about the incidents during the Gen Z movement, he has been asked for clarification,” Sharma said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the commission had recorded a five-and-a-half-hour statement from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane in connection with the Nakkhu Prison incident during the same protests.
The probe commission had asked Khapung for details regarding major incidents that occurred in the Kathmandu Valley on the second day of the Gen Z protests, including the looting of firearms.
Sharma said Khapung was asked for clarification after he failed to submit the requested information.
