KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) president Rabi Lamichhane has said that the time for him to speak is approaching.

Lamichhane made the remark while leaving Singha Durbar on Wednesday after giving a statement before the high-level probe commission investigating the Gen Z Movement incidents of September 8 and 9.

Responding to journalists’ questions outside the commission office, he said briefly, “The time to speak is coming.”

The government formed the commission under former Special Court chairperson Gauri Bahadur Karki, with members Bigyan Raj Sharma and Biseswar Prasad Bhandari, to investigate the violent incidents during the Gen Z protests, which left at least 74 people dead nationwide.

Lamichhane, who is currently in Nakkhu Prison in Lalitpur on charges related to a cooperative fraud case, was taken to Singha Durbar for interrogation.

The commission reportedly questioned him for more than five hours regarding his sudden release from prison on the day of the protests.

According to Lamichhane and his party, the prison administration itself had handed him a letter stating that it could not ensure his safety and released him.

His release coincided with widespread jailbreaks across the country, with many inmates still at large.

Lamichhane faces accusations of using forged documents to leave the prison, which he denies.

After completing his statement on Wednesday, he was escorted back to Nakkhu Jail.
