Karnali, Dec 21: The National Para-Sports Competition is to be held in Surkhet, the capital of Karnali Province, Birendranagar.
The Para Foundation branch office in Surkhet is to hold the event from coming January 23 to 28.
The competition features wheelchair basketball competition to be held at the Karnali Provincial Stadium in Birendranagar and the cricket competition at the Kalinchowk cricket ground.
Similarly, the wheelchair race competition will be held from the Birendranagar airport to Bangesimal, a distance of five kilometers, according to the organisers.
All seven provincial and departmental teams are taking part in the event that also includes wheelchair dance competitions will be held. A total 200 wheelchair users will participate in the competitions, according to Foundation Chair Kishor Shahi.
The competition is being organized to encourage and make people with disabilities understand that they can also showcase their abilities like the able ones if given the opportunity, Chair Shahi said.
It will also help change the social perception towards people with disabilities, draw the attention of the state, promote inclusive sports and introduce para athletes, and spread the message that the Para National Games, like the national games, can also be held in Karnali.
It may be noted that Surkhet is also the host of the upcoming 10th National Games.
