KATHMANDU: The ‘Govinda Biyogi Journalism Award–2082’ and the ‘Govinda Biyogi Special Journalism Award 2082′ have been conferred by Samapadak Samaj Nepal (Editors’ Society Nepal) in honor of its founding chairman and esteemed journalist Govinda Biyogi.
In commemoration of Biyogi’s 20th Memorial Day, the awards were presented today during a ceremony at Shivapuri Rural Municipality-7, Suirechaur, Nuwakot, by former President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav. During the event, Dr. Jagat Nepal, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, received the ‘Govinda Biyogi Journalism Award–2082’, which includes a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a certificate of honor.
Additionally, the ‘Govinda Biyogi Special Journalism Award’ was awarded to journalist Chandani Hamal from Gorkhapatra Daily and columnist Rajendra Manandhar from the weekly ‘Shukrava: Ya Tansapau’.
The organizers highlighted that Hamal was recognized for her impactful journalism on environmental protection and climate change mitigation, while Manandhar was honored for his contributions to journalism in the Nepal Bhasa language.
This award carries a cash prize of Rs 15,000 along with a certificate of honor. At the event, former President Dr. Yadav also presented the ‘Editors Society Nepal Honor’ to veteran journalists Sharadchandra Wasti and Sudarshan Acharya.
The ceremony, presided over by society President Puru Risal, featured Dr. Yadav emphasizing the growing importance of journalism in fortifying democracy.
He reflected on Biyogi’s significant contributions to the establishment of democracy through his journalistic endeavors.
