KATHMANDU: Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has said that the journey of Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) was not only of news dissemination but also a foundation stone of modern Nepal’s journalism.
Speaking at the 65th anniversary of the RSS today, the Vice President viewed that the has been continuously informing the citizens by internalizing the principle of objectivity, impartiality and neutrality.
Noting the emergence of different aspects of political and economic systems in the society, Vice President Yadav the major responsibility of journalism was to contribute to the development of a cultured society. “The RSS has its further expanded role in this regard,” the Vice President said.
Likewise, he suggested that the RSS should come up with a clearer stance in defense of federalism, democracy, republicanism, secularism, equality and good governance by doing away with all sorts of prejudices.
He also appreciated the role played by the media to keep people awake and ensure the spirit of freedom of expression.
“Moreover, the RSS can analyze the social, political, cultural and economic conditions in a more balanced way,” according to the Vice President.
This state-owned news agency can forge an understanding on the public policies and expedite the nation’s development process, the Vice President said.
In his speech, Yadav stated that maintaining quality journalism in the present context with increased quantity was a major challenge and urged the RSS to transfer this challenge into an opportunity to lead professional journalism.
Likewise, Yadav praised the RSS for beginning news bulletins in Nepal Bhasha, Awadhi, and Maithili languages, calling it an appreciation of inclusion and diversity.
“This helps strengthen federal democratic republic and boost citizen’s ownership to the state,” Vice President Yadav observed.
He said that the RSS should shoulder huge responsibility to work as a pillar to advocate positivity in the society where frustrations and negativities have gripped.
