Election Commission says 60 percent voter turnout nationwide

KATHMANDU: Approximately 60 percent of votes were cast nationwide in the House of Representatives election held following the Gen Z movement.

According to the Election Commission’s (EC) preliminary estimate, around 60 percent voter turnout was recorded across the country, said spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.

Elections were held for 165 members of the House of Representatives under the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) system and 110 members under the Proportional Representation (PR) system.

EC Spokesperson Bhattarai said the election was completed peacefully, except for a few minor disruptions. Following the completion of voting, vote counting will begin immediately after ballot boxes are securely collected.

A total of 18,903,689 voters aged 18 and above were eligible to vote in this election. Among them, 9,663,358 are men, 9,240,131 are women, and 200 belong to other gender categories.

According to the EC, 10,967 polling locations and 23,112 polling centers were designated across the country.
