KATHMANDU: CK Raut, the chairman of the Janamat Party, has announced that he will step away from parliamentary politics while continuing his political activism and struggle for public causes.

In a post on Facebook, Raut stated that he would retire from position-based or parliamentary politics but would remain active in advancing his political agenda and serving the people.

“I will retire from parliamentary politics but continue the politics of struggle. I will keep leading the party as long as it needs my leadership,” he wrote. He also clarified that stepping away from parliamentary politics does not mean he is leaving politics altogether.

Raut said he would remain politically active, continue promoting his principles and agenda, and keep working for the people.

The Janamat Party, led by Raut, rose to prominence following Nepal’s 2022 parliamentary and provincial elections, when it became a national party. Raut himself won a direct seat in parliament, while the party secured five additional seats through the proportional representation system after crossing the electoral threshold.

However, in the election held on March 5, 2026, the party failed to win any seats. Raut, who contested from Saptari-2, lost to Ramji Yadav of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. Other Janamat Party candidates also failed to win direct seats, and the party did not cross the threshold in the proportional representation category.

Raut said he will now focus on strengthening the party and preparing it for future elections.
