BEIJING: Nepal and China have expressed a shared commitment to further strengthen their bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of both nations following high-level talks in the Chinese capital.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal, who is currently on a four-day official visit to China, held a comprehensive bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Monday.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the discussions between the two counterparts encompassed key strategic areas of mutual interest, including enhancing regional connectivity, border management, boosting bilateral trade, technology transfer, and multilateral cooperation.
This milestone meeting with Foreign Minister Wang follows a series of high-level diplomatic engagements for the Nepali delegation.
Earlier on Monday, Foreign Minister Khanal met with Liu Haixing, the Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Taking to the social media platform Facebook to share details of that encounter, Minister Khanal noted that his talks with the CPC leader were “highly fruitful” and focused on expanding party-to-party exchanges and deepening grassroots, people-to-people ties between the two neighboring nations.
During his remaining engagements in Beijing, Minister Khanal is slated to hold separate meetings with other senior Chinese officials, where he is expected to address ongoing matters concerning the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Beyond diplomatic dialogues, economic cooperation remains a central focus of the trip. Minister Khanal is scheduled to participate in an Investment Conference organized by the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, aimed specifically at attracting foreign direct investment and interacting with prominent Chinese entrepreneurs and business leaders.
Minister Khanal is scheduled to conclude his official itinerary and return to Kathmandu on Wednesday, June 17.
