Foreign Minister Khanal leaves for Indian Ocean Conference in Mauritius

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal left for Port Louis, Mauritius, on Thursday to attend the 9th Indian Ocean Conference 2026 at the invitation of India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

The conference will be held from April 10 to 12 under the theme “Collective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance,” organized by the India Foundation in association with the Government of Mauritius.

During the conference, Khanal will deliver Nepal’s national statement on Indian Ocean governance, the mountain-ocean ecological nexus, and maritime connectivity for economic development. He is also scheduled to hold meetings with counterparts on the sidelines.

He is scheduled to return to Nepal on April 13, 2026.
