KATHMANDU: Flights and landings at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) will be suspended for seven hours every night to accelerate infrastructure construction work.

According to Indu Raj Adhikari, chief of TIA’s Terminal Management Division, the airport will remain closed every day from 11:45 PM to 6:30 AM until May 18. The closure is intended to facilitate ongoing pavement construction work.

The airport office stated that construction is currently underway in the taxiway area adjacent to the runway, and nighttime flight operations are being halted completely for safety reasons. Airlines have been requested to adjust their flight schedules accordingly to minimize inconvenience to passengers.

As Nepal’s busiest international gateway, TIA has been experiencing a steady rise in passenger traffic. To address this growing demand, expansion and upgrading of runway, taxiway, and terminal facilities are currently in progress.
