KATHMANDU: The government has directed that all trade union offices be shut down immediately.
Issuing a circular on Tuesday evening to ministries, departments, commissions, secretariats, and other agencies, the government instructed that all trade union offices operating within these bodies be closed.
According to the circular released by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, employees affiliated with various trade union committees have been asked to return to their designated posts as per the approved staffing structure.
“The offices of departmental and other committees related to civil servants’ trade unions must be closed. If employees affiliated with such committees have been using office buildings, workspaces, vehicles, or other facilities and government property for trade union purposes, the concerned offices must reclaim them. Arrangements should be made to deploy those employees to their assigned duties as per the approved positions,” the circular states, citing a secretary level decision dated May 5, 2026.
