KATHMANDU: Traffic has resumed on several highways across Nepal that were disrupted by floods and landslides triggered by recent rainfall.

Road sections including the Kantilokpath at Bhalukhola in Bagmati Rural Municipality–3 of Lalitpur, and the Thukim–Dobhan inner road in Hangangdang, Meringden Rural Municipality–5 of Taplejung, have reopened after being blocked by landslides following Monday evening’s rain.

Similarly, vehicular movement has resumed along the Araniko Highway at Kodari in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality–2 of Sindhupalchok, which was obstructed by the Iku landslide, and at Bharyangdanda in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality–8 of Makwanpur along the Kantilokpath.

According to him, traffic has also resumed in one direction on the Mid-Hill Highway at Bokhim in Bhojpur Municipality and the Beni–Jomsom road section at Jalthale in Annapurna Rural Municipality–3 of Myagdi.

However, several roads remain completely blocked. These include the inner earthen road connecting Ilam to Jhapa via Salakpur Dakhep in Rong Rural Municipality–6, Ilam; sections of the BP Highway at Chaukidanda (Namobuddha Municipality–6) and Ghumaune (Roshi Rural Municipality–7) in Kavrepalanchok; and the Mid-Hill Highway at Bimirebhanjyang in Madhya Nepal Municipality–10 of Lamjung.

Authorities have also halted all vehicle movement along the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunje Besi road section in Kavrepalanchok.

Police have urged travelers to remain cautious and follow safety measures while traveling on roads that are either partially operational or at risk, as the threat of floods and landslides remains high during the monsoon season.
