Joint Session of Federal Parliament Scheduled for Monday Afternoon
The budget session of the Federal Parliament will begin on Monday, with the government’s annual policy and programme also set to be presented the same day. According to the Parliament Secretariat, President Ram Chandra Poudel will address a joint meeting of both houses of Parliament at 4:00 pm under Article 95 of the Constitution. Lawmakers of both the House of Representatives and National Assembly have been asked to attend the joint session before 3:45 pm. Earlier in the day, separate meetings of both houses will take place at 2:00 pm. The House meeting is expected to discuss the presidential notice on summoning the session, Cabinet reshuffle updates, House regulation procedures, and approval of obstruction-removal provisions under parliamentary rules. The government is also scheduled to table eight ordinances, including amendments related to public procurement, dismissal of public officials, and the Constitutional Council, in both houses of Parliament.

RSP Calls Central Committee Meeting; Dissolves Bara District Committee

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to convene its Central Committee meeting on May 13 following a decision made by the party’s Central Secretariat meeting held on Sunday, according to spokesperson Manish Jha. The meeting also took disciplinary action against 15 party members, revoking their memberships for activities deemed against party interests. However, the party has not disclosed the identities of those removed. In another major decision, RSP dissolved its Bara District Committee based on a recommendation from the provincial committee and has begun preparations for a new district convention there.

Four Parties Decide to Continue Madhesh Government

Four ruling parties have decided to continue supporting the Nepali Congress-led government in Madhesh Province despite the Janamat Party withdrawing its support. A joint meeting of the Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Nepali Communist Party and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal on Sunday decided to continue the government led by Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav. The parties also decided that the chief minister would seek a vote of confidence at the earliest.

Rabi Lamichhane Challenges Critics Over Chief Justice Recommendation Remarks

Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, has objected to remarks made by acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla during Saturday’s Law Day event. Addressing party lawmakers during a training program, Lamichhane defended the recommendation process for the Chief Justice and questioned criticism that it had gone against constitutional practice. Rastriya Swatantra Party Appoints New Department Heads

The central secretariat meeting of the Rastriya Swatantra Party held today (May 10) has appointed Milan Pandey as the head of the party’s Central Education Department. The National Cleanliness Week is to be launched in government offices from Monday. The government has started a cleanliness week in all offices at the federal, provincial and local levels. For this, guidelines for the operation of the cleanliness week have been issued, said Subarna Bajracharya, a section officer of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. The cleanliness week has been initiated to maintain a clean, healthy and organized environment in all government bodies and educational institutions and to develop hygiene-related practices.

SEE Results Preparation Underway, Results Expected by May 12

The Office of the Controller of Examinations has begun preparations to publish the results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE), 2025. The exams were held from April 2 to April 12, after which answer sheet evaluation and verification began immediately. The National Examination Board has stated that results will be published by May 12. Controller of Examinations Tuka Raj Adhikari said that 35 staff members are currently engaged in the tabulation process, with the goal of publishing results within the deadline.

Karnali Faces Power Crisis as 132 kV Transmission Towers Collapse

A severe electricity crisis has gripped Karnali after the Kohalpur-Surkhet 132 kV transmission line sustained significant damage. Two towers of the transmission line snapped and collapsed after heavy winds knocked trees onto them within the Bardiya National Park area. Construction on the project had begun six years ago and was finally completed and connected to the Surkhet substation in February 2026. This had ensured quality electricity for the citizens of Karnali and, specifically, had ended the “low voltage” issues in the provincial capital, Birendranagar. 93 Fall Ill from Suspected Food Poisoning After Wedding Feast in Chitwan

The number of people who fell ill due to suspected food poisoning after attending a wedding feast at a party venue in Bharatpur has reached 93, with 50 currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals. The incident occurred after guests attended a wedding banquet held at Chautari Party Palace in Dharmachok, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-4, on May 6. According to District Police Office Chitwan Chief Superintendent of Police Govinda Puri, people who consumed food at the event gradually began showing symptoms of illness. Patients are receiving treatment at Bharatpur Hospital, Chitwan Medical College, and College of Medical Sciences. Some patients are also being treated in hospitals in Kathmandu, including Civil Service Hospital and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

11 Members of Same Family Fall Ill After Eating Wild Mushrooms in Jhapa

Eleven members of the same family fell ill after consuming wild mushrooms in Bahradashi Rural Municipality. The incident took place in Buttabari of Bahradashi Rural Municipality-2, where the family of Tej Bahadur Khawas ate a mushroom dish prepared from wild mushrooms during breakfast on Sunday morning. According to District Police Office Jhapa Information Officer Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, all family members developed health complications after eating mushrooms collected from the forest. The victims include 50-year-old Kamalamaya Khawas, 31-year-old Dilli Khawas, 20-year-old Anita Khawas, and eight children.

Police Detain Five Indians, One Nepali from Birgunj Casinos

Police have arrested six people, including five Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, on charges of entering casinos in Birgunj and engaging in suspected illegal gambling activities. National Planning Commission Recommends Multi-Year Funding For Eight Road Projects

The National Planning Commission (NPC) has recommended the Ministry of Finance to approve multi-year funding commitments for eight major road projects. Thunderstorms With Rain Expected in Parts of Nepal Until Tuesday

The Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in different parts of the country until Tuesday. According to the Division, Nepal is currently under the influence of western winds, local winds, and a low-pressure system near the eastern region, along with a partial impact of a low-pressure line in the upper atmosphere over central and eastern parts of the country. On Sunday night, moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Similarly, on Monday, chances of moderate rain with thunder and lightning have been forecast in some places of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, and at a few locations in the remaining provinces.
