KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order stopping the government from collecting customs duty on daily consumer goods worth over Rs 100 brought through Nepal–India border points.

A joint bench of justices Hari Prasad Phuyal and Tek Prasad Dhungana directed the government not to enforce the decision until a final verdict is reached.

The move came after a writ petition challenged the policy, arguing it contradicts the Customs Duty Act 2024.

The rule had tightened border checks and faced public criticism, especially in the Terai region.
