KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has advanced a lawn construction and greenery promotion program on an area of approximately 61,263 square meters located on the southern side of the Army Pavilion.

According to the metropolis, the ground in that area will be leveled, layered with three inches of fertile soil, and planted with Bermuda grass. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 42.5 million, while the contract agreement has been signed for Rs 27 million. The project aims to complete the construction work by mid-January 2027.

Under the greenery program, borings will be installed at the four corners of Tundikhel, water management will be handled, and ‘water recharge pits’ will also be constructed for rainwater harvesting. Clarifying that it will not construct any permanent structures in the Tundikhel area, the metropolis stated that the space will be managed solely for open and public utility.

According to the metropolitan city, the program has been initiated with the objective of reducing dust and mud problems while providing a comfortable environment for the general public for relaxation, exercise, sports, and public events.

It has been stated that although certain activities may be temporarily affected during the construction period, the Khulamanch can be used as an alternative.
