KATHMANDU: A total of Rs 127 billion and 690 million has been collected through life insurance premiums. According to the Economic Survey of the current fiscal year released by the Ministry of Finance, non-life insurance premium collection stood at Rs 32 billion and 530 million.
Compared to February-March 2025, total insurance premium collection increased by 16.1 percent by the mid-March in the current fiscal year, reaching Rs 160 billion and 220 million. As of this past mid-March, among the active insurance policies, the number of life insurance policies reached 16,259,832, while non-life insurance policies totaled 2,168,045.
The survey notes that under life insurance, claim payments worth Rs 26 billion and 840 million were settled for 125,830 insurance claims up to Mid February of the current fiscal year. Under non-life insurance, Rs 17 billion and 310 million was paid out across 94,215 insurance claims.
In the insurance sector, 12,430 individuals have secured direct employment across life and micro-life insurance segments. According to the survey, around 412,452 agents are engaged in indirect employment as of Mid March 2025. Additionally, 1,224 surveyors assessing damages for non-life insurance businesses and 16 reinsurance agents have gained employment.
Employees Provident Fund assets reach Rs 642.5 billion
Similarly, the total assets and liabilities of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) reached Rs 642 billion and 350 million by this past Mid-January. During this period, the accumulated savings of the depositors stood at Rs 578 billion and 60 million. The Fund has invested Rs 229 billion and 490 million across various sectors, and extended loans and advances worth Rs 381 billion and 610 million.
According to the survey, the total assets and liabilities of the Citizen Investment Trust (CIT) reached Rs 319 billion and 500 million by the Mid January. During this period, the accumulated savings of the depositors stood at Rs 282 billion and 370 million. The Trust has invested Rs 192 billion and 940 million in various sectors, and provided loans and advances worth Rs 91 billion and 560 million.
