KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office (DAO) Kathmandu has made it mandatory to obtain prior approval for the public screening of FIFA World Cup 2026 matches.
Issuing a notice today, the administration cautioned against activities that disrupt peace and security or affect the community by gathering crowds late at night under the pretext of screening World Cup matches on big screens within Kathmandu district.
The World Cup tournament is scheduled to begin on June 11.
The administration stated that any organization, institution, or company wishing to broadcast the matches live must compulsory obtain prior permission.
The required application format for screening the live matches can be downloaded from the official website of the District Administration Office.
According to the notice, approvals will be granted based on the location of the respective organization/company and the local security situation, subject to the conditions specified in the application.
The notice warns of strict action if the mentioned rules are violated.
The notice further emphasizes that if anyone defies the directives and gathers crowds at night without the office’s approval under the guise of broadcasting the FIFA World Cup live, or engages in indecent, unruly, undesirable, or illegal activities, immediate and strict legal action will be taken in accordance with prevailing laws.
