KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) has shared a detailed itinerary for the Makalu Base Camp Trek on his Facebook page to highlight the remote Himalayan paradise located in eastern Nepal.
Known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich biodiversity, and spectacular mountain scenery, the challenging trek takes adventurers up to a maximum altitude of 4,870 meters over a duration of 17 to 18 days.
The Prime Minister’s post detailed the complete route, which recommends spring and autumn as the best seasons for the journey.
The outlined trek starts with a flight or a 14-to-16-hour drive from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and onward to Num.
From there, the foot journey proceeds through terraced fields and local villages via Seduwa, entering the Makalu Barun National Park at Tashigaon.
Trekkers then cross scenic ridges through Khongma Danda and Dobato before descending into the beautiful Barun Valley at Yangle Kharka, where a day is set aside for acclimatization.
The itinerary further includes an excursion to the sacred Shiva Dhara waterfall before moving past Langmale Kharka to reach the ultimate destination at Makalu Base Camp.
After a dedicated day of exploring the base camp and enjoying panoramic Himalayan views, the return journey retraces the same path through the valley, forests, and villages over several days, eventually concluding with a trip back from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu.
