KATHMANDU: An emergency meeting of the CPN (UML) parliamentary party is currently underway at the party’s central office in Chyasal following the arrest of party Vice-Chairman Bishnu Paudel.
The meeting, which began on Tuesday afternoon, is being attended by senior leaders, including Party Chairman KP Sharma Oli. The primary agenda of the meeting is to assess the political situation arising after Paudel’s arrest and to formulate the party’s immediate and long-term response strategy.
Vice-Chairman Paudel was arrested on Monday in Surkhet while he was participating in the party’s ongoing campaign focused on election review and organizational restructuring suggestions.
He was taken into custody based on a letter issued by the Department of Money Laundering Investigation.
Following his arrest, he was flown to Kathmandu on Tuesday morning for further legal procedures.
