MYAGDI: Traffic services have resumed on the Beni–Jomsom road after a 12-hour disruption caused by a massive rockfall.

The crucial highway connects the northern region of Myagdi and neighboring Mustang district to the national highway network.

Work crews successfully cleared the heavy debris and boulders that had completely blocked the route.

The road was initially closed last night following a tragic accident at Mahabhir in Annapurna Rural Municipality-6, Myagdi.

A large boulder detached from the hillside and crushed an electric vehicle passing underneath.

The driver, 23-year-old Sohil Miya of Birgunj Metropolitan City, was traveling alone toward Pokhara after driving the electric vehicle from the Korala border point in Mustang.

According to Police Inspector Sagar Timilsina, security personnel rescued an unconscious Miya from the wreckage and rushed him to the Province Hospital in Beni, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Indra Singh Sherchan, a supervisor for the Beni–Jomsom–Korala Road Project, confirmed that heavy equipment from the Department of Roads was deployed immediately to clear the debris, allowing vehicle movement to resume this morning.

Stranded vehicles and passengers have since departed for their respective destinations.

The fatal rockfall occurred on a stretch of the highway currently being widened using explosives.
