NEW DELHI: Indian Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced his resignation from his cabinet post on Saturday, July 25, 2026, sharing the decision through a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

In his official resignation letter made public on the platform, Pradhan stated that his decision was intended to prevent “anti-national forces” from taking advantage of the ongoing student demonstrations at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and across India.

Outlining his reasons for stepping down, Pradhan wrote that he decided to quit “so that the unity of the country remains intact, so that the future of no student in India gets tangled in legal complexities, and so that our children spend their time studying and focusing on building their careers.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not yet issued any public statement regarding the Education Minister’s resignation.

The political development follows days of escalating tension between student organizers and authorities in the Indian capital.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) had previously called for a nationwide candle march on Sunday evening, July 26, 2026, to express solidarity with students targeted during police action during a July 20 demonstration toward the Indian Parliament.

Simultaneously, Delhi Police have registered multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) against participants of the July 20 march.

In response, the CJP’s demands include a public apology to the protesting students who were “brutally thrashed” during the crackdown, as well as formal guarantees that no further FIRs will be filed against demonstrators.
