SUNSARI: Fresh clashes broke out in Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3 (Kaptanganj), Sunsari district, on Tuesday evening, escalating tensions that have gripped the area since late Sunday night.

Rival groups armed with domestic weapons converged on the local market around 8:00 PM, engaging in heavy stone-pelting and violent confrontations.

The ongoing unrest has tragically claimed the life of 30-year-old Om Prakash Mehta and left several others injured.

Following the surge in violence, the Government of Nepal issued an official appeal through Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Hem Raj Aryal, urging local communities to maintain calm, avoid provocative behavior, and reject misleading rumors.

The government promised full coverage of medical expenses for all injured victims through the Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene, along with appropriate compensation for affected families and strict legal prosecution of those responsible.

Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs formed a high-level investigation committee mandated to submit a comprehensive probe report within seven days to prevent further escalation and uphold social harmony.
