SUNSARI: In an urgent measure to restore order and stem worsening security conditions following violent multi-group clashes, the District Administration Office (DAO) of Sunsari has clamped an indefinite curfew across key parts of the district starting at 9:00 PM on Tuesday.

Issued by Chief District Officer Ishwari Prasad Aryal following a District Security Committee decision under Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, the administrative order strictly bans all public movement, rallies, gatherings, demonstrations, and assemblies until further notice, warning that violators will face immediate legal action.

Fresh clashes have broken out in Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3 (Kaptanganj) on Tuesday evening, escalating tensions that have gripped the area since late Sunday night.

Rival groups armed with domestic weapons converged on the local market around 8:00 PM, engaging in heavy stone-pelting and violent confrontations.

Security forces have been heavily deployed to enforce the directive across fully restricted local units—including Inaruwa and Duhabi Municipalities, as well as Bhokraha Narsingh, Koshi, Gadhi, Dewanganj, Harinagar, and Barju Rural Municipalities—along with a 200-meter buffer zone on either side of the Mahendra Highway traversing Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City (Wards 16 and 17) and Ramdhuni Municipality (Wards 1 and 5).
