KATHMANDU: The Nepal-Germany Government-to-Government (G2G) Negotiations on Development Cooperation concluded on June 17 in Kathmandu, with Germany pledging EUR 37.6 million for projects in the energy, health, economic development, and civil society sectors over the next two years.

The negotiations, held in Kathmandu from June 16 (Tuesday) to June 17 (Wednesday), reviewed bilateral cooperation programs and established a new framework for collaboration in the energy, health, economic development, and civil society sectors.

According to the agreed cooperation framework, the funding will support efforts to strengthen Nepal’s national power grid, promote climate-friendly energy systems and policies, improve access to quality healthcare, expand health insurance and digital health services, and support Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital.

The package will also focus on creating economic opportunities for farmers, youth, women entrepreneurs, micro, small, and medium enterprises (SMEs), and local economies.

In addition, Germany will support civil society initiatives aimed at promoting locally led development, social cohesion, human rights, and transitional justice.

Held every two years, the G2G negotiations serve as the formal mechanism through which the governments of Nepal and Germany determine development priorities and financial assistance aligned with Nepal’s national development goals. Officials from both countries said the renewed partnership will help translate bilateral commitments into practical benefits for communities and institutions across Nepal.
