KATHMANDU: Nepal’s total outstanding financial irregularities have reached Rs 755.17 billion, according to the 63rd Annual Report of the Office of the Auditor General submitted to President Ram Chandra Paudel.

Auditor General Toyam Raya presented the report at Sheetal Niwas on Friday, highlighting continued weaknesses in public financial management.

The report shows that Rs 88.09 billion in new irregularities were identified in fiscal year 2024/25 alone.

Of the total irregularities identified this year, Rs 53.48 billion came from federal government offices, Rs 5.22 billion from provincial offices, Rs 19.04 billion from local levels, and Rs 10.32 billion from committees and other institutions.

The cumulative outstanding irregularities has increased by 2.99 percent compared to the previous year, the report states.

It also notes that recurring irregularities persist due to weak follow-up and failure to implement audit recommendations.

In addition, Rs 787.86 billion has been flagged for further action, including revenue, foreign aid, loans, and reimbursements pending timely settlement.

Although Rs 14.63 billion was recovered during the year through audit interventions and settlements, the Auditor General warned that similar types of irregularities continue to reappear across government bodies, calling for stronger accountability and enforcement.
