KATHMANDU: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to welcome a high-level delegation from Nepal’s Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), led by Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, upon their arrival in New Delhi tomorrow, June 1.

According to a press release issued by Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale, In-charge of the BJP’s Foreign Affairs Department, the visit comes at the official invitation of BJP President Nitin Nabin.

During their stay in the Indian capital, Lamichhane and his delegation are slated to meet with President Nabin and other senior leaders to establish formal, party-to-party engagement.

The bilateral talks will focus primarily on exchanging views regarding organizational practices, democratic processes, and people-centric political outreach.

Notably, the official statement outlines engagements strictly within the BJP party leadership, with no mention of the delegation meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their visit.

This high-profile political outreach to New Delhi follows immediately on the heels of a major political storm brewing back in Kathmandu.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah drew fierce condemnation from opposition lawmakers during his first address to the House of Representatives.

Responding to questions regarding the disputed Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura regions, Prime Minister Shah claimed on the parliament floor that Nepal has also encroached upon Indian territory.

The Prime Minister remarked that it was a surprise to him as well upon taking office, stating that both nations have encroached on each other’s land in many places and that the government is looking to sit down and solve the issue amicably as friends.

The Prime Minister’s remarks triggered immediate protests from opposition MPs on the house floor, who labeled the statement factually incorrect and “against the national interest.”

Border experts and diplomats have similarly expressed astonishment, pointing out that while local cross-border land utilization does occur, treating it as equivalent to state-level territorial encroachment seriously undermines Nepal’s official diplomatic position.

Against the backdrop of this escalating domestic border controversy—and amid an unconfirmed invitation for PM Shah himself to visit India—RSP Chairman Lamichhane’s party-level visit to New Delhi is being viewed by political analysts as highly significant.
