KATHMANDU: The government has used bulldozers to demolish structures built on encroached public land in the Dhobikhola area of Kathmandu Metropolitan City–10.

The demolition drive was carried out on Saturday and Sunday, targeting structures constructed on illegally occupied land. A large number of personnel from the Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, and municipal police were mobilized during the operation.

A seven-storey building built by encroaching on public land along the Dhobikhola was also demolished. Part of the building facing the road had been constructed on government land. The structure housed various businesses, including a restaurant, bar, and spa.

The government has launched a nationwide campaign to remove illegal settlements and structures built on public land.

In the first phase, encroachments along riverbanks in areas such as Thapathali, Sinamangal-Gairigaun, and Shantinagar in Kathmandu had already been cleared.
