In this fiscal year so far, a total of 57 wild animals, including the rhinos, have died. These wild animals have died in and around the park area since mid-July 2025.
According to Abinash Thapa Magar, information officer at the Chitwan National Park, in this fiscal year, four tigers, three elephants, and 18 spotted deer have died. Additionally, two leopards, two hares, two marsh crocodiles, two gharials, one python, one golden jackal, and four other wild animals have died.
Those wild animals died from natural causes. The wild animals died due to reasons such as getting stuck in marshes, fighting, accidents, and tiger attacks. Magar stated that due to increased awareness and a social awakening, wild animals have been protected from poaching this fiscal year.
He mentioned that the growing conservation awareness at the community level has helped reduce poaching of wild animals. In the last fiscal year, 81 wild animals died.
