SUNSARI: The District Administration Office has issued an indefinite curfew order in five locations of Sunsari district after a person died when police opened fire during a clash between two groups in Kaptanganj, Dewanganj Rural Municipality–3, Sunsari.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Omprakash Mehta of Dewanganj–3, Kaptanganj, who succumbed to police gunfire.

Sixteen people, including protesters and police officers, were injured in the incident.

Chief District Officer Basudev Ghimire issued the order enforcing the curfew from 7:00 AM on Monday until further notice.

According to the order issued at 12:30 AM on Sunday night, all activities—including movement, gatherings, rallies, demonstrations, assemblies, meetings, and picketing—are strictly prohibited in the designated areas.

Issued pursuant to Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 1971, the order warns that strict action will be taken against anyone taking the law into their own hands.

The administration stated that individuals violating the order could face a fine of up to Rs 1,000, imprisonment for up to one month, or both.

The administration has also demarcated the boundaries of the five areas where the curfew has been enforced.
