KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to provide monthly house rent support of Rs 15,000 to landless settlers without land ownership certificates.

Hari Dhakal, Chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives, informed that the government plans to provide temporary housing support until genuine landless are identified and provided with land ownership certificates.

Speaking at a committee meeting on Thursday, ministers and officials from the Ministry of Urban Development and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration presented updates on squatters’ management and informed lawmakers about the proposed plan.

The government is preparing to provide rent assistance to genuine squatters displaced from settlements in Thapathali, Gairigaun, Manohara, and other areas of Kathmandu.

The government also stated that screening work is currently underway to identify squatters and landless people staying at various holding centers in Kathmandu.

Representatives from the Ministry of Urban Development said the necessary resources for the program have already been secured.
