NAWALPARASI: A joint monitoring team of lawmakers, local officials, and technicians conducted a field inspection of the West Daunne-Butwal section of the Butwal-Narayangadh road expansion project on Saturday following widespread public complaints over poor construction quality.
MP Bikram Khanal stated that serious technical flaws were discovered and demanded immediate corrections to align the project with Asian Highway standards.
Project Engineer Bikram Khanal acknowledged the shortcomings and promised to formally instruct the contractor to rectify all technical errors.
Local officials also raised concerns over poor drainage causing waterlogging and a complete lack of road safety measures.
Additionally, technicians reported that freight vehicles carrying up to 90 tons are freely operating on the newly paved road despite its maximum capacity being just 10 tons, causing the blacktopping to rapidly sink and crack.
The administration has pledged strict action against overloading to protect the Rs 8-billion national pride project.
