KATHMANDU: Continuous monsoon rains have triggered widespread landslides, mudslides, and severe river erosion, disrupting traffic across several major highway sections throughout Nepal.

The heavy rainfall has rendered key transport arteries impassable, isolating multiple districts and severely impacting inter-district travel. In response to elevated risks of flash floods and landslips, authorities have enforced mandatory nighttime travel bans along both the BP Highway and the Kanti Lokpath.

Meanwhile, critical trade and transit routes remain completely severed, including the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok due to massive landslides and the Mechi Highway in Ilam owing to heavy mud accumulation.

Travelers face additional roadblocks along the Lamosangu–Ramechhap and Trishuli–Syabrubesi routes, where swollen streams have eroded roadbeds and triggered fresh slope failures, forcing traffic onto local detours.

In the high-altitude region of Mustang, a sudden surge in the Ghyakar Stream has entirely blocked the Jomsom–Korala road section.

Personnel from the Department of Roads, alongside local authorities and security forces, are actively deploying heavy machinery across affected sites to clear debris and safely reopen the obstructed transit routes.
