KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Information and Communications has formed a four-member committee to study and investigate the equipment and technology procurement processes carried out at various times by the public service broadcaster, Nepal Television.
According to the ministry, the probe committee was formed under the coordinator-ship of Dr. Sudip Bhattarai through a ministerial-level decision on June 15, 2026.
The committee has been directed to conduct a factual study of complaints, reports, and matters of public concern related to various equipment, software, and digital systems procured by Nepal Television, and to submit its report with recommendations to the ministry within 21 days.
The probe committee has been given a mandate to conduct a detailed study regarding the procurement of graphics systems, new media (digital platform) services, audio/video equipment, digital transmitters, and the ‘Playout Automation System’ purchased for the Itahari channel.
Complaints and grievances regarding these matters have been lodged with various agencies, and the ministry formed the investigation committee for its own internal information purposes regarding these issues.
For the past few years, questions regarding transparency and compliance with legal procedures have been raised over various procurement processes aimed at modernizing the technology and broadcasting systems at Nepal Television.
Previously, the ministry had also formed an investigation committee to look into the satellite procurement case of the public service broadcasting institution.
