KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Constitutional Council has been called to move forward with the process of appointing the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Following the instruction of the Council Chairperson, Prime Minister, the Council Secretariat has scheduled the meeting for Thursday.
According to a notice issued by the Secretariat on Wednesday, the meeting will be held on May 7 (Thursday) at 5:00 PM at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar. The main agenda of the meeting will be the recommendation for the appointment of the Chief Justice.
The Constitutional Council meeting has been called with the participation of Prime Minister and Council Chairperson, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, Leader of the Opposition Bhisma Raj Angdembe, and Deputy Speaker Ruby Kumari. Since the agenda involves recommending the Chief Justice, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobita Gautam has also been included in the meeting in place of the sitting Chief Justice, as per the usual practice.
