KATHMANDU: Lawmakers targeted the government from multiple fronts during Thursday’s House of Representatives session, demanding accountability on critical social, economic, and geopolitical issues.

CPN (UML) MP Ashuda Kumari Baral strongly condemned the ongoing eviction of landless settlers, calling the government’s Rs 25,000 compensation package entirely impractical and a violation of basic human rights to independent living.

Concurrently, Nepali Communist Party lawmaker Bhim Kumari Budha Magar questioned the government’s failure to curb the massive youth exodus during its first 100 days, urging the administration to respect the public mandate by generating immediate domestic employment opportunities rather than threatening the democratic republic’s core values.

Adding to the pressure, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Khusbu Oli launched a scathing attack against Prime Minister Balendra Shah for answering critical questions regarding state borders at the party convention in Chitwan instead of inside the parliament.

Oli argued that evading the House undermines parliamentary democracy and accountability.

She further criticized the Prime Minister’s recent lighthearted remarks implying Nepali encroachment on Indian territory, stating it demoralizes border residents in regions like Susta and tarnishes national pride.
