KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has expressed sorrow over the demise of NC senior leader Gopalman Shrestha.

Leader Shrestha died today while undergoing treatment. He was 79.

NC President Thapa said, “Shrestha’s untiring role in Nepal’s democratic movement, building the party organization and safeguarding democracy will always remain inspiring.”

Starting his political career from Syangja district, Shrestha served as the party’s Acting President and the government’s Deputy Prime Minister and other ministerial portfolios too.

Likewise, NC’s outgoing President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has also extended heartfelt condolences on the demise of leader Shrestha.

Deuba stated that Shrestha’s leading role in Nepal’s democratic movement will always be remembered.
