KATHMANDU: Two positions in the 59-member National Assembly—one elected seat from the Sudurpaschim Province and one nominated by the President—have remained vacant for over three months with no official decision on filling them.
Legally, elections for unexpected vacancies must be held within 35 days, but the Election Commission delayed notifying the government until mid-May due to review processes from the recent House of Representatives elections.
Meanwhile, the filling of the nominated seat—vacated by Bamdev Gautam—remains stalled because the President’s Office put a hold on the previous government’s recommendation of then-Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal.
The newly formed government has yet to clarify whether it will uphold the past recommendation or submit a new one, leaving both positions unresolved.
