KATHMANDU: Inspector General of the Armed Police Force (APF), Nepal, Narayan Dutta Poudyal, has said that the organisation is effectively performing its duties in border security, disaster management and revenue leakage control as per the mandate it has received.

At an interaction with journalists organized at the Armed Police Headquarters in Halchok today, he said that preparations and response plans for weather-related disasters have been made and work to that end has started in full coordination with the concerned agencies.

Inspector General Poudyal stated that efforts are being made to make border security more organised than before.
He mentioned that in terms of border crime control, they had to face challenges regarding manpower, technology, and operations, and stated that the organisation is committed to carrying out result-oriented works.

The APF, Nepal Inspector-General mentioned that controlling revenue leakage is a top priority for the government and said that the organisation has taken up this issue and is committed to helping the government achieve its goals.
Inspector General Poudyal, while giving information that the process of drafting the laws related to the armed police is moving forward, expressed the view that it will bring legal and policy clarity.

He made it clear that a zero-tolerance policy has been adopted to address complaints about financial transparency and governance within the organisation in a timely manner, given that financial discipline and transparency are the government’s main goals.

“Work is being carried out to strengthen internal security, and right now, instead of creating a new ‘setup’, we are focusing on how to achieve the best results from what we already have with us,” Inspector General Poudyal said.
He said that the Armed Police Force has been active to meet the expectations of the government and the people. Inspector General Poudyal stated that recently the organisation’s policy, research and planning directorate has been formed to move the organisation’s work responsibilities in a more organised way than before.

“How can we make our mandate and responsibilities even better in the future than in the past? How can we move our responsibilities forward? How can we work towards developing the organisation? Works are being carried out on research and planning in its various aspects,” he said.

Informing the media about the plan to establish a ‘Border Interaction Team (BIT)’ mechanism at the main border checkpoints to manage border security and border posts, Inspector General Poudyal said that this mechanism will facilitate coordination with counterpart organisations at the border checkpoints and make travel easier.

The APF Inspector General said, “Thousands of people pass through our checkpoints daily, and this concept was proposed to facilitate the process, make coordination with the counterpart agencies easier, prevent any issues at the border, and help control illegal activities. It has reached the final stage, and we will implement it as a pilot project at some checkpoints.”
