KATHMANDU: Nepal is set to battle Hong Kong in the final of the Asian Games Men’s Cricket Qualifier today (Monday) in Singapore. The highly anticipated clash is scheduled to begin at 12:15 PM, with both teams aiming to clinch the title as undefeated champions.
Nepal comfortably secured its spot in the final on Sunday by thrashing Oman by 8 wickets in the first semifinal. Hong Kong booked their final berth later that day after defeating Malaysia by 6 wickets in the second semifinal.
Prior to the knockout stage, Nepal had displayed a dominant run in the group stage, dismantling China by 221 runs in the opening match and cruising past Malaysia by a massive margin of 167 runs in the second game.
In officially recognized Twenty20 International (T20I) matches by the International Cricket Council, Nepal and Hong Kong have faced each other 14 times. Nepal has won seven matches, while Hong Kong has claimed five victories. Two matches between the sides were abandoned due to rain.
Meanwhile, Malaysia and Oman will compete for third place in the tournament later on Monday.
