KATHMANDU; The teaser for the film Bhothan, starring Haribansha Acharya in the lead role, has been released.
In the teaser, Acharya portrays a Bhutanese immigrant who is brought to America.
His character is shown as a mentally ill man struggling to return to his homeland but ultimately failing in his efforts.
The teaser also highlights Dayahang Rai and Joyce Pandey, who play brothers embroiled in an argument over whether to burn or bury their father’s body.
The teaser touches on themes such as gay relationships and traditional rituals. Notably, Hollywood actor Bruce Dern appears in the film, marking his first collaboration in a Nepali film directed by a Nepali filmmaker.
Titled The World’s Happiest Man in English, the film stars Acharya alongside Dayahang Rai, Anuradha Majumdar, Pooja Chand, Richa Ghimire, Joyce Pandey, Aditi Pyakurel, Tom Crane, Bimal Subedi, and Bruce Dern in special roles.
This is the first Nepali film made under Hollywood’s Saag Afterra banner, with some Hollywood technicians contributing to the project. Bhothan is directed by Binod Poudel.
The main producers of the film include Abheeral Thapa, Rajendra Thakurathi, Amitava Joshi, Sushank Mainali, and Kirtana Banskota.
The executive producers are Bikash Vito Adhikari, Kaushila Khanal, Ramesh Bhatta, Apar Shrestha, and Bhuvan Pyakurel.
Co-producers include Joyce Pandey, Pradeep Sharma (Badaen), Raju Poudel, Ravin Pokharel, and Nawaraj Parajuli. The film features cinematography by Susan Prajapati, editing by Anjaay Khadka, sound by Dikesh Khadgi Shahi, and music by Sambaran Preethu Rai. The film is scheduled for release on September 12.
The word Bhothan refers to a place where one’s home once existed but is now lost.
