KATHMANDU: The government is scheduled to present five ordinances in the House of Representatives today (Wednesday), following discussions between ruling and opposition parties.

Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Ghimire confirmed that after extensive talks, parties including the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) have agreed to move forward with ordinances beyond the controversial land ordinance.

While discussions on the land ordinance continue, other ordinances will proceed as planned.

The government plans to introduce an ordinance to amend various Nepal Acts related to good governance, public service delivery, financial procedures, fiscal accountability, privatization, and creating a more favorable economic and business environment to attract investment.

Opposition parties have criticized the government for issuing ordinances without convening Parliament, questioning its governance approach.

By legal standards, all ordinances must be approved by the House within 60 days of a parliamentary session, with a deadline of March 30 for these ordinances.
