The Nepali film and theatre actor Diggaj Khatri has starred in Sony Liv’s popular Indian web-series ‘The Waking of a Nation.’ The historical-fiction series, which began streaming on Friday, is directed by Ram Madhvani. The series is set against the backdrop of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, a significant and tragic event in Indian colonial history that took place in Amritsar, Punjab, on April 13, 1919. This six-episode series blends historical narrative with courtroom drama, and explores the events leading up to and following the genocide from a fictional perspective.

In this series, actor Khatri plays the role of a Gurung soldier serving in the British Army. A brief glimpse has also been given in the trailer of the series. Khatri had shot his scenes in Punjab in September a year and a half ago. He was selected through an audition. “The response has been good since the release,” Khatri told Online News. Khatri has acted in Nepali films like Gorkha Warrior, Last Sakaar and the upcoming film ‘Eklo’. Associated with Mandala Theatre, he has acted in plays like ‘Umlido Kharanee and Lemlemma’ as well as Macbeth, Moon Moon, Ticket to Hollywood and others.
