KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives meeting, initially set for 1:00 PM today, has been postponed twice—first to 3:15 PM and then further delayed to 5:30 PM.
The Speaker, invoking Rule 6(2) of the House of Representatives Rules, 2079 BS, adjusted the meeting time to later in the day. Members have been notified of the revised schedule to ensure their participation.
The repeated rescheduling comes amid a growing deadlock in Parliament, largely driven by the Maoist Centre’s demand for a parliamentary investigation committee to probe the ongoing visit visa scandal—a demand firmly rejected by the Nepali Congress. This standoff has caused significant disruption to parliamentary proceedings.
Efforts are underway with ongoing discussions between the chief whips of both parties to resolve the impasse, but no consensus has yet been reached.
Meanwhile, opposition parties, led by the Maoist Centre, continue to press for the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and call for a formal parliamentary or judicial inquiry into the visa controversy, which has become a focal political issue.
